“A Star is Born” is the movie that I can watch a couple of times more after the ending. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga were two powerful forces that made this whole story meaningful.
This segment is not entirely my full review. This is just the overall impression I got after watching the movie. I honestly felt heartbroken on that last part where Bradley Cooper was singing the end part of the song entitled “I’ll Never Love Again.”
I have never felt this much sadness just listening to a song. That weave of moments that lead to the ending of the movie was so intense that moving on from the story itself was a slow pace. Yes, I love the A Star Is Born movie, and I think I will wait for the release of the Blu-ray version so I can watch it all over again. I will keep it on my collection of great films of all time, and I will treasure it.
The following commentary has some spoilers. So if you have not watched the movie yet, please go and see it on a nearest theater or cinema. It will worth it especially if you are into love stories and tragic things.
A Star Is Born – The Story
Jack or Jackson Maine played by Bradley Cooper, is a famous country music artist met Ally (Lady Gaga) on a drag bar after one of his shows. Jack got mesmerized by Ally’s performance. The guy asked the lady out and spent the night talking about their personal stories. And then the whole love story began.
It sounds so typical and straightforward. But then, it turned out to be the saddest love story I have watched for the last three years.
I was expecting that Jack will feel envious of Ally’s success and the attention she was getting. I honestly thought that he would be the one to ruin her for good. But as the story progresses, you realize that the guy genuinely loved the girl in his own twisted ways.
Jack was battling his alcohol and drug addiction. He has that negative vibe on him, but somehow, it gave his character a lot more depth. It made the story a lot more interesting. And in his way of fighting his issues, I kind of felt bad for judging his weaknesses. He tried to make it work.
Ally, on the other hand, was an aspiring singer and songwriter. She has her issues as well, but somehow, she’s making it work for her. In her small ways, you kind of feel her struggles. She experienced discrimination pursuing her dream and ended up singing on a drag bar.
After their first meeting, Jack invited Ally to come to his next concert. She refused at first but decided to go ahead and quit her current day job. On the concert, Jack asked her to sing her song with him in front of thousands of people at that concert. And since then, Ally had become a part of his life and developed a romantic relationship with each other.
The whole rollercoaster love story became more and more apparent after they got married. Jack goes in and out of his substance abuse, and Ally gets more successful with her career.
At some point, I thought Jack would bring her down with him. As he spirals down with his career and his personal struggles, I thought I knew where the story was going. I was wrong and found myself heartbroken in the end. Trying to grasp the ending was a sad glare onto the screen.
At the back of my mind, I knew he has that tendency. But I thought that choice was his last resort. I guess it was indeed the last resort. He didn’t want to bring Ally down with him. If he stayed, Ally could lose it all.
He was an uncontrollable mess after all. The stunt he did on the Grammy awards was shockingly absurd. Why would he do that? It’s one of the most important events of Ally’s career. Why would he put her on that embarrassing situation? Sadly, I guess his weakness and lack of will to fight his issues is the antihero here.
Anyway, the last part of the movie was a mix of numbness, chaos, and search for the right answer. Or it was more than that. I don’t know. I just found myself suddenly surprised by the next scenes. And then Ally started singing Jack’s song.
A Star Is Born movie is a must-watch movie. I highly recommend it. The movie was also directed by Bradley Cooper, and he really did a fine job on the film. He used small little things along the earlier parts of the story to emphasize huge events that lead to the ending. Although this is his directorial debut, it felt like a veteran made it. Cheers to him.
I will rate the movie 8.5 out of 10. The film was magnificent, but it’s not perfect. I love most of its moments, and I think this one will be a classic as well.
Anyway, if you have some thoughts about the movie, feel free to share it with us in the comment section. Thank you for reading this far.
