Last Wednesday, we binged-watched our night on Netflix and watched the Bird Box movie. Not having to see the trailer beforehand, I assumed that the film was about a drama story. I just got that vibe from the poster I saw online.

So it was a pleasant twist of an event when I realized that the movie was a sci-fi one. Being a fan of sci-fi stories, my anticipation shifted immediately to an excitement. Anyway, without further ado, here’s the Bird Box movie review. Watch out for some spoilers ahead.

Bird Box Synopsis

From my point of view, the story started with Malorie (Sandra Bullock) instructing the kids about what they are about to do. That already leaves a chilling feeling that something is awfully amiss in the story.

Then the scene shifted back to five years earlier when the “event” started. There were news and headlines about some sort of epidemic occurrences from Russia and some places else around the world.

At the time, Malorie was pregnant. Accompanied by her sister Jessica (Sarah Paulson), they went to an OB-GYN clinic. After the checkup, Malorie saw a woman smashing her own head on a glass wall. It was then she realized that the “the thing that’s making everybody crazy” is here now.

Panicking, they immediately left the hospital. But on their way home, things have already gone worse. Jessica her sister, without any rhyme or reason, killed herself. And that’s where everything started. Well, at least for Malorie.

Luckily, Malorie was saved by a random woman named Lydia, wife of Douglas (John Malkovich). Unfortunately, Lydia also died while trying to save her. Tom (Trevante Rhodes) picked up Malorie and led her inside Greg’s (BD Wong) house. Inside the house, there were other people that already realized the danger of being outside.

After some talks, Douglas and the other deduced that it would be best to stay away from the outside view. They closed the doors and covered all the glass windows.

After a while, one by one, people that were inside the house started dying for one stupid reason to another. This is as far as I can spoil for the movie. I suggest you watch it for yourself. It should be available now in your country or area.

Final Verdict

Overall, I liked the movie. I am okay with the idea of watching it one more time. But, that’s as far as I could handle. It is that good, but not so good. It’s right up there but not on top. I hope you’re getting my point.

What I am trying to say is that the Bird Box is a good movie with a superb quality of storytelling. It has few dull moments but mostly great screenwriting. You should enjoy this movie just as much as you would enjoy your favorite lunch.

And finally, as for the usual Bird Box movie review, it is just fair to rate this movie 8 stars out of 10. It is worth it.
