The Walking Dead Season 9, Episode 5: The Turning Point of a Great Story

Personal Thoughts And Short Stories Show Updates And Movie Reviews

The Walking Dead season 9, episode 5 was a heartbreaking one. It’s some sort of a culmination that was a long time coming. Well, we are now in the ninth season, and it is pretty much a long time coming for everyone in this TV series. But the way the show did this episode is pretty much deserving of its character. No, not the explosion. I meant the tributes and the last moments.

Before we finally proceed to the rest of the article, let me just please warn you about the spoilers ahead. If you have not yet seen the episode, well, you have been warned. Here’s my TV show review for The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead: Rick’s Final Moments

This episode took on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), one of the lead characters of The Walking Dead. His final moments started when he woke up stabbed/stuck on a rebar. He managed to escape his situation as he tried to pull himself off the rebar using his belt before the walkers finally reach him.

Rick Grimes

Along with his heavy walk and occasional loss of consciousness, he was haunted by significant people from his past. Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal), Rick’s former best friend made an appearance. It was brief but was a pleasant surprise after all.

Also, Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson), father of Maggie (Lauren Cohan), was there. Then there’s the rest of the cast which made me felt a momentary relief when they arrive at Rick’s rescue. But then, it turned out to be just another dream. All of them told Rick to “Wake up.”

I just wish Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Carl (Chandler Riggs) were also included in the dream sequences. I would have rated this episode a perfect ten. Most especially if it was Glenn.

I don’t really want to mention too many events from this episode as I would like for you guys to feel the story that this part of the season is trying to give us. But as the spoilers that I claimed in this article, you have to know that the ending left a hopeful note.

I don’t know which character is your favorite on this show. But if you are like I am who has grown fond of all of them, you would feel that ominous farewell with a heavy heart. That part where Daryl (Norman Reedus) gave his best shots using his favorite crossbow just to protect Rick from the walkers. That was the moment when you knew that he was really going to die.

As Daryl picks off one walker to another, you get that feeling that you would wish the crossbow would never run out of arrows to shoot. That feeling that somehow, those arrows could help give more time for Michonne (Danai Gurira) and the others to reach Rick.

I Found Em

Then the dynamite went off after Rick said his final words, “I found ‘em” and fired his last shot. I don’t know about you guys, but I held my breath for as long as I can. Michonne screamed while the others held her back. Daryl wept and turned his back and walked away.

What’s Next for The Walking Dead?

Well, Rick was found still alive on the side of the river by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) as she was trying to escape on a helicopter. Everyone else assumes that Rick is dead so moving on is in order.

I would have preferred that Rick was dead to make it more poetic. But that would be silly as I also felt relieved that he is still alive. So there could still be future appearances from him in some form and situations or another.

Hopefully, the rest of the remaining main characters of this wonderful TV series could still carry the franchise without Rick. They probably could. Daryl, Maggie, and Michonne are still alive. Carol (Melissa McBride) is still a badass and a delight to watch. Perhaps, there’s more left after this tragedy.

Verdict

I think this episode is now my favorite. This is undeniably the number one and on top of my list when it comes to The Walking Dead seasons and too many episodes. I don’t know how many episodes were there. I lost track.

The scenes got better, and the score was on point. The cinematography is impressive, and the screenplay really kicked in. They took their time, and it was worth it. Big time.

This turning point of an episode is what was amiss all along. I love The Walking Dead, but there were so much waste episodes that almost took me away from their story. I would really miss Rick but his last moments reminded me of how long I have stayed for this TV series. And The Walking Dead is just a huge part of my every year.

And with the last parts of this episode revealed, we know that a new story is about to unfold. I positively hope that it is going to be a good one. I want more again.

Tell us what you think of this season 9 episode 5. Was Rick’s death necessary? If you are given a choice, who would you rather say it should be? Let us know what you think, and we’ll talk about it more in the comment section below.
